What a crazy game took place on Old Traford?

Manchester United scored five goals in the second half 5-2 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

First-half goals from Darren Bent and Luka Modric put Tottenham up 2-0 at halftime.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored first from the penalty spot after a controversial decision by referee, while Wayne Rooney made it 2-2 then Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second goal of the match and made it 3-2 for Manchester United.

Then Wayne Rooney found the net for the second time in the 71st minute to stretch the lead to 4-2, while Dimitar Berbatov capped the scoring with 11 minutes to play.

The result keeps Manchester United three points clear of second-placed Liverpool with a game in hand.

Steven Gerrard scored a hat trick as Liverpool thrashed visiting Aston Villa 5-0 on Sunday.

In Premier League, Manchester United tops the standings with 65 points, followed by Liverpool at 64 and Chelsea.

Steven Gerrard said: “It’s more than we expected,” Gerrard said. “Villa are a fantastic team and have been going well this season.”

Dirk Kuyt took just eight minutes to score against Aston Villa, then Albert Riera scored the second goal in the 33th minute.

In the 39th minute Steven Gerard scored again from penaty.

Steve Gerrard struck the resulting free kick low into the bottom corner of Friedel’s net, in the second half(50th minute).

Liverpool crush Aston Villa when Fernando Torres as he surged forward to meet Alonso’s ball and Gerrard dispatched another penalty in the 65th, and he score.

Liverpool 4-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The win cuts Manchester United’s lead over Liverpool to four points, although the defending champions still have a game in hand.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute to put the hosts ahead, but Liverpool’s Fernando Torres answered right back five minutes later and Steven Gerrard scored again in the next minutes.

Fabio Aurelio scored in 77th minute when he shot inside the near post, leaving goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar no chance.

Andrea Dossena then capped the scoring shortly before in90th minute.

Manchester United rallied to reclaim a seven-point lead in the Premier League.

W. Ronney and Dimitar Berbatov scored to secure a 2-1 win at Newcastle last night after Van der Sar’s run of shutouts ended at 1,311 minutes. Van der Sar allowed his first Premier League goal since November.

Alex Ferguson said: “Coming from 1-0 down was a good result for us, it required a lot of grit,”, “We could have been 2-0 down. Obafemi Martins hit one by the post, and it was a hairy spell for us.”

Also the match from Premier League, Stoke defeated Bolton 2-0, J. Beattie score in the 14th minute and R. Fuller score in 73th minute.

Hull and Tottenham won to help their chances of staying in the top flight.

Manchester City beat Aston Villa 2-0, West Ham won at Wigan 1-0 and Blackburn and Everton draw 0-0.

Giggs scored from penalty area with the only goal in the 62nd minute at Upton Park.

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar set a new record of 1,312 minutes without conceding a goal.

Alex Ferguson said: “What the back four are doing is focusing and concentrating on their jobs,”, “They’ve got pace, they’re quick and, of course, we’ve got a goalkeeper like Edwin van der Sar who is just a fantastic goalkeeper.

“I’m proud for Edwin. At his age he has achieved everything, but you can see the way he is motivated by the challenge of the clean sheets and it’s an extra edge.”

Fernando Torres scored two goals in the final minutes to give Liverpool 2-0 win over Chelsea.

The first strike came in the 89th minute after a good cross from Fabio Aurelio, while the Spaniard added a second in stoppage time when he pounced on a loose ball inside the area to beat goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard received a questionable red card in the 60th minute for a foul on Xabi Alonso.

The first half was very tight with few openings for either side, although Liverpool did manage to test Cech on a few occasions.

With the game headed for a scoreless draw, Liverpool mounted a late surge to take the points as Steven Gerrard played the ball wide to Aurelio on the left and he drove a cross into the box for Fernando Torres.

The striker then met the ball with his head at the near post and redirected it past Cech to make it 1-0 for Liverpool.

The second goal was scored in injury time.

Liverpool move to within two points of leader Manchester United.

Tim Cahill’s header in the 86th minute denied Liverpool’s bid to regain the top spot in the Premier League.

The Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard opened the score in the 68th minute with a wonderful 30-yard strike, but Tim Cahill’s answer four minutes from the goal scored by Steven Gerrard and make the score 1-1.

Liverpool now is in second place, level on points with Manchester United but trailing on goal difference and having played one more game.

Everton is in sixth place in Premier League and is now unbeaten in its last seven games.

Liverpool reacted by taking the ball down the field and pass up to Steven Gerrard for a fantastic shout to make 1-0 for Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta swung a free-kick into the box from the left and Tim Cahill got his head to the ball and scored.

PostHeaderIcon Manchester United seized top spot in Premier League

A last minute goal from Dimitar Berbatov has sent Manchester United to the top of the  Premier League.

Liverpool is yet to play this weekend, after both clubs have 21 matches the defending champions are on 47 points and Liverpool 46.

Berbatov scored in the 89th minute to give Manchester United a 1-0 victory against Bolton.

Without injured striker Wayne Rooney, Manchester United had plenty of chances but was denied by Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

“I don’t think it’s decisive . Of course it’s always nice to be there,” said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. “I always feel the best place to be is in the lead.

Liverpool have their game against Everton on Monday night but, at the moment, even if it’s only two days we can reflect on a very good period for us.”
